Alternate Reality Gaming
Something relatively new to me is the concept of Alternate Reality Games (ARG). Players are immersed together in a storyline which is controlled by the puppetmaster (PM) for that game. General information and forums for ARGs can be found at Immersion Unlimited and Unfiction.
An ARG that is still in the beginning stages is Wildfire Industries. Forums discussing Wildfire can be found on both Unfiction (for out of game discussions) and IU (for in character discussions). There is an in character IRC chat today at 3PM PST for those interested in joining Wildfire Industries.

Woot! Woot!
Woot! has interesting daily sales of sometimes technology related, sometimes off the wall stuff. Each day one item is displayed until it is sold out. Next day, repeat. They have had some interesting items. Today's item is a Cube Door.
Virtual NASCAR Racing
If there's one thing I love, it's competitions. I've been virtual NASCAR racing in leagues and competitions (and making money, too) at NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway ever since they opened their first stores in 1998. Check out the map and see if there is one in your area.

Video Games-Top Ten in Sales for 2004
Kotaku reported on the Top Ten Games in Sales for 2004 today. It is somewhat saddening to me that I have only played one of the ten, but then my tastes sometimes falls out of the mainstream.
It is not surprising now that EA is trying to take over the console sports world, with over 7,000,000 units sold for just the sports titles in the top ten.

What do you get when you cross a dozen ferrets, a few scientists and The Matrix?
No, this isn't a joke. Researchers from the University of Rochester in New York actually sat twelve ferrets down to watch The Matrix in order to study the ferrets' neuron activity in their brains.
Is Monopoly the top board game?
I would beg to differ. This site publishes the rankings of all board games on a monthly basis. You can view the top 100 or see the whole list of currently 4645 games. The scale is from 1 to 10 and the rankings come from those interested in ranking the games (702 for the 1/10/04 chart).
#1 is Puerto Rico with an 8.483. Where does Monopoly rank? #2558 with a score of 3.937. Rounding out the list at #4645 with a ranking of 1.547 is Tic Tac Toe. (The scary thing is that T3 doesn't have a rank of 1... hmmm... a game that when played with grade school children always results in a tie... sounds like a socialist game to me)
Interesting blogs to follow
I have been reading the following blogs for the last year or so...highly recommended.
Gizmodo reviews "gadgets, gizmos, and cutting-edge consumer electronics".
Kotaku covers gaming news, both console and PC.
